The 4th

Hope you all had an excellent 4th of July, ate some barbeque, and drank too much bourbon because that is pretty much what we did around here. In addition to the normal inebriation we did however take a moment to unfold a beautiful and old American flag that was given to Mrs. WildWood’s uncle for his service in the Korean war. The flag itself was made in Valley Forge Pennsylvania, very appropriate for the 4th of July. While it only flew for a brief while yesterday due to the rain it was great to see it in the sun. Happy 4th.

I don’t mean to be a dick—I love your blog and smile every time I see that you have a new post—but I wanted to let you know that the flag in the photo above is actually backwards. (I wasn’t sure at first, but a quick check of the old BSA handbook and a few State of the Union photos seemed to eliminate any doubt.)

Sorry for being the flag cop. I completed two bike rides across the US in 2007 and 2008; on these trips I was constantly amazed by how one town I would pass through would be flying its flag at half-staff while the very next town would have its at full-staff. The moral of the story: flying the flag this way or that way is probably the American thing to do.

In any case, I hope that you and your family had a wonderful 4th. (‘Twas high-noon o’ the year, after all.) Thank you again for a great blog; please keep the posts coming!

Cheers,
