Here I am, safely returned over those peaks from a journey far more beautiful and strange than anything I had hoped for or imagined – how is it that this safe return brings such regret?

Eco warrior and zen peacemaker Peter Matthiessen has author a great many books worth reading. While he has written fiction novels it is Mathiessen’s non-fiction recollections of travels and journeys in the natural world which most resonate with me. I was gifted his classic writing, The Snow Leopard about 10 years ago by a teacher of mine and embarrassingly have just recently got around to reading it. The story recounts his journey through the Himalayan Mountains with zoologist George Schaller in search of the illusive snow leopard.


There was a recent documentary about Peter’s life created by PBS called No Boundaries, here is a link to the trailer
